Fuel-Saving Powertrain
The Civic is powered by an Atkinson-cycle 2.0L four-cylinder that produces 150 hp and 133 lb-ft of torque. The engine comes mated to a CVT and features numerous fuel-conserving technologies. Screeching Brakes
If you hear screeching noises when you hit the brakes, one or more of your brake pads have worn down. Brake pads have a rough covering, and they fit into the brake calipers. When you brake pressurized brake fluid is forced through the hoses to the calipers, and they close on the spinning rotors. The rough material covering generates friction against the rotors, forcing the wheels to a stop.
A healthy pad has a 1/2″ thick material covering, which slowly wears down over time. Once the covering drops to 1/4″ thickness, a metal spike buried inside the material becomes visible. This spike will scratch against the rotor, producing a screeching sound as a warning you need pad replacement. We’ll replace any damaged pads, and the noise will stop.
