What can I expect from my visit to the service department?

Battery Information

How can I tell if my battery is fresh?

Look for a small decal on the side of the battery container. The letter corresponds with the month, starting with “A” for January, “B” for February, and so on. The number represents the year with “9” standing for 1999, “0” standing for 2000 and so on. Example: A9 would be January 1999, CO would be March 2000.

What should I consider when purchasing a battery?
  • Size:​ What are the dimensions of your original battery?
  • Power:​ What are the Cold Cranking Amps required to power your vehicle?
  • Warranty:​ Automotive batteries are backed by a warranty package. Choose what is right
    for your vehicle’s needs. The best bet is to check with your service advisor at the dealership where you purchased your car.
My car won’t start. How do I know if it is my battery?

Here are some questions that will help you decide if it is your battery:

  • Are your terminals or battery clamp corroded? If so, your battery won’t charge properly
  • Is there a loose ground wire giving you an intermittent connection?
  • Do you have a cross-threaded bolt on your side terminal? That could cause a loose connection.
  • Is there a loose or worn belt? That can make your battery work too hard.
  • Is your voltage regulator functioning? If not, your battery could overcharge or undercharge. You should also check your battery for related problems.
  • Is your battery installed correctly? An improper hold-down or a lack of hold-down can cause excessive vibration and internal damage to the battery.
  • Do you have the right battery size? If your battery is too small for your vehicle, it may not function correctly.

Brake Information

My brakes have started to squeal when I apply the brakes, could there be a problem?

Yes and No. Some brake noise is normal especially if you drive in demanding conditions such as traffic congestion and/or dusty/sandy conditions. Even humidity can cause brake noise. These conditions promote surface hardening which is the hardening of the brake pad/shoe surface. If you are noticing any difference in the way your brakes are stopping or slowing your vehicle, or if you are hearing squealing noise upon brake application, have your brakes checked by a certified safety expert at your dealership.

How often do I need to check my brake fluid?

Brake fluid is often overlooked in the braking system of vehicles. Brake fluid is formulated to moisture absorption, control rubber expansion and corrosion, and acts as a lubricant. Check the levels of your brake fluid occasionally and refill when necessary.

Recently when I press the brake pedal it seems to go closer to the floor until my vehicle slows down. What causes this?

This is a sign you need immediate break repair. Air in the brake lines will cause your pedal to go all the way to the floor without slowing the car. This happens when the master cylinder has been allowed to be drained of brake fluid and refilled without bleeding the brakes. This can happen during brake wear, or it can happen during break repair. This repair should never be delayed.

Oil Change

What happens if I don’t change my oil?

The life of your engine and your car depends on quality oil running through your engine parts. If you wait too long between oil changes, your engine will have extensive and damaging wear. Don’t deprive your car from its most vital lubricant system.

How often should I change my oil?

Refer to your owner’s manual for the recommended service intervals. Remember, oil is the lifeline for your car. Without it your engine can potentially have engine-damaging effects.

What type of oil should I use?

It is very important to choose oil displaying the “Starburst” certification symbol, shown at left. This symbol indicates that the oil meets the latest performance requirements set by the automotive and oil industries.

Lighter oils flow easier once the cold engine starts, bringing vital lubrication to moving parts.

Tires Information

How often do I need to rotate my tires?

It is recommended to have your tires rotated every 10,000 miles to ensure your tires wear evenly.

How often should I have my tires aligned?

If you have experienced any of the indicators below, you may need to have your tires realigned:

  • Uneven tire wear
  • Vehicle seems to be drifting to one side, even when you think you are driving straight
  • Steering wheel vibrates
  • You are driving straight but your steering wheel isn’t centered
What is the proper air pressure for my tires?

Under-inflated tires make your vehicle work harder and this can lead to reduced fuel economy. Overinflating your tires can lead to faster deterioration and uneven wear.

To find the proper air pressure for your vehicle, consult your owner’s manual, the sticker on the driver’s side doorjamb, or in the glove box.
