  • What Time Does the Bronx Zoo Open?: 10:00 a.m.
  • What Time Does the Bronx Zoo Close?: 4:30 p.m.
  • How Much are Tickets to the Bronx Zoo?:
    • Adults (ages 13 and above) – $28.95
    • Children (ages 3 to 12) – $20.95
    • Children (ages 2 and under) – Free
    • Seniors (ages 65 and above) – $26.95
  • When is the Bronx Zoo Free?: General admission to the Bronx Zoo is free on Wednesdays.
  • Is the Zoo Open on Holidays?: The Bronx Zoo is open daily, year-round, but is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, and Martin Luther King Day.

How to Get to the Bronx Zoo

The Bronx Zoo is located at 2300 Southern Blvd, within Bronx Park, about 8.9 miles from New Rochelle. The two most popular ways to get there are by car or by train:

  • By Car: The quickest way to get to the Zoo from New Rochelle by car is to take I-95 South to Bronx and Pelham Parkway. Continue onto US-1 S/E Fordham Road, take the Southern Blvd/Dr Theodore Kazimiroff Blvd exit, turn left onto Southern Blvd, turn left to merge onto US-1 N/E Fordham Road, and turn right onto Bronx Park Road. There are two parking lots, one at 2300 Southern Boulevard and the other at the intersection of Bronx River Parkway and Boston Road.
  • By Train: Take the #2 train to Pelham Parkway. The station is ADA accessible and has three elevators that will take you down to street level. Then it’s a short walk west to Gate B, the Bronx River entrance to the Zoo.

  • How Big is the Bronx Zoo?: The Bronx Zoo consists of 265 acres of parklands and natural habitats, making it the largest metropolitan zoo in the U.S.
  • How Many Animals Are in the Bronx Zoo?: The zoo houses more than 6,000 animals representing more than 600 species.
  • Who Owns the Bronx Zoo?: The Bronx Zoo is owned and operated by the Wildlife Conservation Society. The WCS supports conservation efforts and protects more than 200 million acres of wild land in 65 countries.
  • How Many Employees Does the Zoo Have?: The Bronx Zoo employs over 750 full-time staff and is the largest employer of youth in the Bronx.
