Have you heard of Pinterest? If you're one of the few who hasn't let us fill you in! We know social media sites appear and disappear daily, but Pinterest is different. It has attracted millions of fans who are draw to the site for creative inspiration.
How does it work? Well users can "pin" things like images, articles, recipes etc to their board which can be viewed by millions of people. The focus of the site has been recipes and art, but broader topics are starting to be "pinned," or shared.
Honda knows they must be where their customers are. Because of this they are launching their first Pinterest campaign. Honda is taking a creative approach and has found users who are extremely active on Pinterest and asked them what they would really like to do with their time in terms of hobbies, travel, anything. Honda is then asking them to get offline! The Twitter-sphere is calling it a #Pintermission.
Honda will be paying these people $500 to get off the computer and do what they enjoy in exchange for promoting the 2012 Honda CR-V.
As for what other uses Honda sees in Pinterest going forward? Lauren Ebner, assistant manager of social media at American Honda Motor Co. explains, "We're just dipping our toes in the water here with our first campaign, but it will be a good opportunity to market some of our vehicle launches [in the future]."1
